Bitcoin is the world’s first digital currency decentralized, was created in 2009 by an anonymous user or group of people using the pseudonym Satoshi Nakamoto. In 2008 a white paper, entitled “Bitcoin” was released online. The paper introduced the concept of Bitcoin.

The initial release was on the 3rd of January 2009. This was the day that the Bitcoin software was first mining. It’s also known as the “genesis” block. The block had a newspaper headline that read “The Times 03/01/2009: Chancellor at the edge of another bailout of the bank” It is believed to be a reference to the financial crisis that hit the world of 2008, that is believed to be the catalyst for the development of a currency that is decentralized, such as Bitcoin.

Bitcoin was initially used by a small group of developers and enthusiasts. It did not have widespread acceptance. As more and more people began take note of the currency’s worth and its value, it started to increase. While one Bitcoin was only the equivalent of a few dollars in 2010, it was able to climb to $1 by 2011.

Bitcoin was not without its ups as well as downs despite its initial popularity. In 2011, a massive caused the destruction of thousands of Bitcoins, and the collapse of the most popular Bitcoin exchange at the time, Mt. Gox. The currency was also subject to a lot of regulatory uncertainties, and opposition from governments and financial institutions.

Despite the challenges, Bitcoin continued to gain popularity and gain value. Bitcoin’s popularity and value grew in spite of these difficulties. In 2013, the currency was valued at $100. In 2017, it was at an all time high of nearly $20,000. The increase in value was driven in part by increasing acceptance by the general public of the currency, and an increasing curiosity in blockchain technology.

Bitcoin is today regarded as the most popular and successful cryptocurrency in the world. It has influenced thousands of digital currencies, and is used in a variety of industries and applications.
